DC Films took the easy route in picking four attractive female leads to carry Birds of Prey’s plot. Nevertheless, that factor, combined with the steady amount of action scenes, made this one of the better DC movies.

I rate it right behind the Batman series, ranked alongside Aquaman.  The animated approach to the storyline gave it that comic book appeal, and was reinforced well by all of th...

No one would argue that Hampton Roads is “just fine” without a new arena. Quite the contrary.

The two major ones, Hampton Coliseum and the Norfolk Scope, have no more than about 13,000 seats – even fewer depending on the configuration for specific events. Both are roughly a half-century old, and they often look it. I’ve attended the MEAC basketball tournament at Scope the past few years, and the be...

Editor: New Jersey recently joined the ranks of the nation’s clean transportation leaders, by setting into law ambitious steps toward an all-electric, zero-emissions future.

Environment New Jersey’s Doug O’Malley, a leader in the campaign, introduced Governor Phil Murphy at the signing and represented the Public Interest Network’s efforts in this and all the efforts nationwide that led up to it.

Editor: A few weeks ago, we had a historic win for Union Hill, Virginia. A federal court of appeals unanimously tossed out a state air permit that would have allowed Dominion Energy to build a polluting compressor station in this historic community, first settled by freedmen and freedwomen, shortly after the Civil War.

Forty-two households today trace their heritage to the original settlers. This major win...

Editor: I fear the Republican Party members of the U.S. House of Representatives and the U.S. Senate; they are my number one nemesis. They are much more "conservative" than are the conservative-Republican citizens, who they are supposed to represent.

While research indicates that 63 percent of Americans who identify themselves as Republicans do not want Social Security benefits to be cut, my estimate is...

Queen & Slim is quite an impressive metaphorical film production. The audience has the choice of accepting the storyline at face value, or deciphering the various symbolic meanings the film addresses in regards to black men and women relationships, and their obstacles in society.

The script is so masterfully constructed that many interpretations can be extracted from this gold mine of symbolism.

   I'...

Doctor Sleep is a good connection to The Shining, offering a well-conceived, extended plot. Some of the scenes were brutal, in regards to the imagery; not anything gory or graphic, but just in the context of what was taking place, made it all very stirring.

I didn't believe this followup would be anything eventful, but I was very impressed with its approach. I would classify the film as a thriller, with a strong superna...

Harriet is a testament to a true American patriot, and a warrior, in every sense of the word. Her life was the definition of a "hero."

Some critics have been harsh towards the film for it not being entirely accurate from a historical standpoint, yet the movie never claimed it was an actual documentary of her life. Furthermore, it serves the purpose of exposing people to a hero, who is not credited enough, and has ye...

Terminator: Dark Fate's action scenes are visually stunning, due to James Cameron's production prowess. But beyond that, it sort of falls apart.

It's monumental, having Linda Hamilton re-united with Arnold Schwarzenegger, working on the franchise they successfully launched about 30 years ago.

Gabriel Luna's lethal performance was enjoyable and I'm looking forward to seeing him in more action films.

I...

I was definitely pleased with Black and Blue; the scenes had an intense and rough delivery that made you feel every bit of the fast-paced momentum.

Much respect is given to Naomi Harris for all of the physical scenes her character had to endure.

Along with Harris, there are other popular favorites, such as, Mike Colter, Nafessa Williams and Tyrese Gibson to enjoy.  The audience may also recognize Frank Grillo, from two films...

Ten years after the release of the first film of the franchise, Zombieland: Double Tap was truly worth the wait and right in time for Halloween.

The returning cast, along with additional members like Rosario Dawson and Luke Wilson, make the film enjoyable; but Woody Harrelson and Zoey Deutch significantly make this sequel better than the original.

It's simply an extension of the first film, having the same formula, but...

Gemini Man had a great beginning, but it turned out to be just an average film.  With fast-paced action scenes, and a lot of dialogue having emotional depth, the film had enough surprising aspects for me to consider it being the action movie of the year.

Yet, the subpar computer generated imagery (CGI) just made the movie look like an amateur production.

The acting cast gave quality work; Clive...

The Southern Environmental Law Center is headed to the U.S. Supreme Court to defend a victory it won recently against an important permit for the proposed Atlantic Coast Pipeline, which, if approved, would run through Virginia.

Last Friday, the nation’s highest court agreed to hear the appeal, requested by the pipeline developer and the federal government, of a ruling in a case the center won, challenging a U.S. Forest Service...

This is a pretty good background story, showing all of the different events and conditions leading to Joker's rise to fame and power. From a writing perspective, the psychological approach is a good one and it is well-executed in the film.

However, if you are already familiar with the clown prince of crime and have followed his antics throughout the years, this newest movie is just an appetizer and not the main...
