Old Donation School helps the VBSPCA
Old Donation School participates in the VBSCPA Listening Ears Ears program, which provides
a volunteer adult and dog to the library each week to read with children. The program strives
to promote literacy and gives socialization to the SPCA animals. Volunteers, Miss Kay, and
and Dottie, the super reading dog, deliver supplies directly to the animal shelter.

Another trip to space
The 13th cargo resupply mission to the International
Space Station blasted into space last week, carrying
8,009 pounds of cargo. It left from Virginia Space's
Mid-Atlantic Regional Spaceport at Wallops Island.

Man shot to death Saturday night in Green Run
Virginia Beach police found a man with a gunshot wound
late Saturday night, in the 3700 block of Whitney Court,
near the intersection of Lynnhaven Parkway and
Independence Boulevard in the Green Run area. There
are no suspects. A $1,000 reward is being offered.
Governor acts to protect birds near bridge-tunnel
A comprehensive approach to address the loss of
habitat for colonial nesting birds on the South Island
of the Hampton Roads Bridge-Tunnel is in place, and
it also creates a backstop against the federal
government’s failure to protect the wildfowl.
State finds $292.5 million surplus
Governor Ralph Northam recently sent a
letter to Virginia General Assembly Money
Committees announcing additional revenues,
from a mid-session revenue reforecast, due to
better-than-expected January revenues that
will increase projected General Fund revenues
by $292.5 million for fiscal year 2020. By law,
$112.3 million is the required deposit into
Virginia’s rainy day fund, based on the
