Man turns himself in; allegedly set fire to Salem Lakes home
Virginia Beach firefighters fought back and extinguished flames today at a house fire in the 1900 block of Mill Creek Drive, in the city's Salem Lakes section.
The first fire engine to arrive on the scene, at about 12:06 a.m., reported seeing heavy fire shooting through the roof.
"The event was under control within 30 minutes and was marked out at 1:45 a.m.," said Virginia Beach Fire Department spokesman, Art Kohn. "A family of six was not at home at the time of the fire and no injuries to civilians or firefighters were reported."
After the fire, Shannon Cason turned himself in to police and was jailed, charged with arson.
