300 awards at black belt exam; sensei, in a black tuxedo, breaks a board

Ryoshin-Kan Karate School's 35th Annual Black Belt Exam and Awards Banquet was held recently in Virginia Beach. The special event also marked the 39th anniversary of the karate school's founding, and, of its Dragon Force National Karate Demo Team.

"All black belts testing for advance certifications in Karate-Do, Kenjitsu and Kobudo, did outstanding," said Sensei Tim Thompson, the school's founder and an eighth degree black belt. "All black belts demonstrated, Kobudo, Kata, Kumite, Tameshiwari and Goshinjitsu. Well done, to all black belts!"

Held at Buffet City, on Holland Road, the exam was a formal affair, with students earning black belts, and their guests, receiving awards. Thompson performed a board break, while wearing his black tuxedo, at the beginning of the banquet. It was the 10th time that board-breaking was done at the banquet.

"We had 71 people that participated in the banquet and we presented more than 300 awards," said Thompson. "We gave out, Certificates of Appreciation, Karate Champion Awards, Bushido Camp Adventure Awards, Dragon Force National Karate Demo Team Awards, Advance Promotion Certifications, Top Kyu Belt plaques, Dragon Force Super Star Award plaques and Black Belts of the Year plaques; gifts were also presented. Congratulations and 'well done' to all participants."
