Michael Gerson ushers in Law Day; legal group helps those in need
Every day, we celebrate and enjoy freedom of speech and the freedom of the press; and thanks to the Virginia Beach Bar Foundation, in conjunction with the American Bar Association, we can more closely explore and focus on these cornerstones of American liberty.
One way in which we do that by observing Law Day, which is held on May 1 every year to celebrate the role of law in our society and to cultivate a deeper public understanding of the legal profession.
To that end, on Wednesday, May 1, Michael J. Gerson, a nationally syndicated columnist whose work appears in The Washington Post and in more than 100 other newspapers, will be the keynote speaker at the Sandler Center for the Performing Arts at Town Center in Virginia Beach.
Gerson has worked as a top aide under President George W. Bush and joined his presidential campaign in early 1999 as chief speechwriter, and, as a senior policy adviser.
He is also on the boards of the U.S. Center for Global Leadership and the John C. Danforth Center on Religion and Politics. He appears regularly on the PBS NewsHour, Face the Nation and other programs.
