Richard Wayne Woltz, 75, formerly of the 1700 block of Five Forks Road in Virginia Beach, will serve almost 13 years in prison for killing his wife, in Bayside's Lake Smith Terrace neighborhood.

Circuit Court Judge H. Thomas Padrick just sentenced him to 12 years and eight months in prison, for second degree murder.​

The Law Enforcement Torch Run, benefitting Special Olympics Virginia, just passed through the Hampton Roads region, as officers made their way to Richmond for Special Olympics Virginia’s largest annual competition, its Summer Games, on June 7 and 8.

Officers carried the Flame of Hope, as they ran through Chesapeake, Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk and Virginia Beach.

Virginia Beach police officers responded Monday around 10 p.m., to reports of shots being fired in the 2100 block of Atlantic Avenue. Upon arrival, officers found damage to several business store fronts, from gunfire.  

It appears that no one was injured during the incident. 

There is no suspect information.  There is no further information at this time.  ​

Christopher Gerald Skorets, 19, of Carbondale, Pa., was sentenced last week, after pleading guilty to charges of sodomy, abduction, strangulation, assault and battery of a family member; and for using a false ID.

In accordance with a plea agreement, Virginia Beach Circuit Court Judge Steven C. Frucci sentenced Skorets to 30 years and 36 months in prison, with all but 15 years suspended.

The Virginia Beach Police Department Cold Case Unit has made an arrest in a double homicide that dates back almost 46 years.

Janice Pietropola and Lynn Seethaler, both 19 years of age at the time of their deaths, came to Virginia Beach, from the Pittsburgh area, for summer vacation.  They were staying at a cottage located at 10th St and Atlantic Avenue.

Tavis Jaquan Johnson, 21, formerly of the 400 block of Williams Court in Virginia Beach, was sentenced today, by Circuit Court Judge H. Thomas Padrick, for robbery, conspiracy, grand larceny of a motor vehicle and use of a firearm. 

Padrick sentenced Johnson to 33 years in prison, with 21 years suspended, leaving 12 years to serve. The sentence was announced by Virginia Beach Commonwealth Attorney Colin D. Stolle.

Rakim Malik Nottingham, 23, formerly of the 1200 block of Pipers Crescent in Virginia Beach, is guilty of rape, forcible sodomy, malicious wounding and three counts of use of a firearm, after a recent five-day jury trial.
