Star of the Sea students, and mayor, enjoy fall mile run at the Oceanfront

October 19, 2017

Mayor Will Sessoms joined the first grade class at Star of the Sea Roman Catholic School at the Virginia Beach oceanfront for its recently held Fall Mile Run.

Mayor Sessoms met the school’s new principal, Carey Averill, and encouraged the kids as they took part in this semi-annual event for the first time.

The fall and spring mile runs are a beloved tradition at the nearly 60-year-old school.

The students run an up-and-back one mile course on the boardwalk, one grade at a time.

The start line, finish line and time clock are provided by Virginia Beach-based race management company,  J &A Racing.

Individually, each student’s goal was to beat the time of their previous effort.
