At least eight students were taken to the hospital this morning after a car struck their bus in the 2200 block of Independence Boulevard.
It is not clear the students' ages or where they were coming from and going to.
Traveling westbound on Joslin Street at Independence Boulevard at about 7:48 a.m., the bus stopped for a stop sign before entering a traffic intersection, said a city spokesperson.
A car was traveling southbound on Independence Boulevard, approaching Shelton Road, and as the bus was attempting to cross the southbound lane of Independence Boulevard, it was struck by the car, said the spokesperson.
As a result of the accident, eight students were transported to a local hospital for evaluation and the car's driver and two passengers were also transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
The bus driver was issued a traffic ticket for failing to yield the right-of-way.
