Police have arrested a man found this morning in Thalia Elementary School's gymnasium, located at 421 Thalia Road in the Pembroke area. There were no students in the gym when he was taken into custody, said Master Police Officer L. M. Bauder.
Police identified the suspect as Joseph Andrew Miller, 22, of Virginia Beach, who was arrested and charged with trespassing on school property and disturbing the peace.
He is currently being held on a no-bond status.
School officials and safety officers were in the gym with the man around 8:08 a.m., when police arrived. He was unarmed.
This case is being investigated and students' parents were notified.
The school was briefly placed on lock down, until police arrived, and the students were not in danger.
More information will follow pending further investigation, said Bauder.
