Maria Fox dies in N. Great Neck Road car crash; Florida man charged, involuntary manslaughter, DWI, not taking breath test

Maria Grayson Fox, 73, of Virginia Beach, died following a two-vehicle crash last night in the in the 1700 block of North Great Neck Road.

 

The driver of the at-fault vehicle was Anthony Francis Spence, 35, of Winter Park, Fla., who was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated, first offense involuntary manslaughter, driving under the influence hit-and-run with personal injury; and refusal to take blood or breath tests.

 

Traveling in a Lexus SUV, eastbound on River Road, Fox made a right onto southbound Great Neck Road when her vehicle was stuck in the left rear by a white, four-door Hyundai Sonata.

 

Both of its occupants fled the scene on foot, but were soon caught by police and transported to a local hospital for non-life threatening injuries.

 

The Lexus' driver died on the scene.

 

Police said alcohol and speed are factors in the crash.

 

This case remains under investigation by members of the Fatal Accident Crash Team (FACT).
