Two people have been arrested after substances that could be used to manufacture methamphetamines were allegedly located inside their van.
The driver, Michael Steven Whalen, 47, of Winchester, Va., was charged with Possession of a Schedule II Controlled Substance; Manufacture, Sale, Possession of a Controlled Substance; and Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Control Act.
His passenger, Yasmine Mercedes Reid, 38, of Virginia Beach, was arrested and charged with Manufacture, Sale and Possession of a Controlled Substance; and Conspiracy to Violate the Drug Act.
They were caught following a traffic stop last night in the 1700 block of Atlantic Avenue, after an officer ran a license plate check of a suspected stolen vehicle.
The officer discovered that the van was stolen and the driver had several arrest warrants in another jurisdiction in Virginia.
Upon further investigation, an unknown substance was discovered, the Virginia Beach Fire Department was called to assist and the 1700 block to the 1800 block of Pacific Avenue, Atlantic Avenue and the boardwalk were temporarily closed.
