Ocean Network Express, a global transport company, will invest $2.5 million to expand its North American regional headquarters office in Richmond.
The Winery at Bull Run will invest $1.7 million and plans to double production of its wines. The winery, which opened in 2012 on 225 acres adjacent to the Manassas National Battlefield Park, also produces grapes on-site and at its 40-acre Rappahannock County vineyard.
The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has recently awarded a $42,700 grant to Housing Partnership Inc., for “Ramps United,” which is a joint project between two partner agencies of the United Way of the Virginia Peninsula: House Partnerships, Inc., and Gloucester Housing Partnership. The grant will pay for about 12 handicap ramps to be constructed to assist people with disabilities in accessing their home. The project serves disadvantaged and disabled individuals, who are at or below the poverty level, and have the medical necessity for a handicap ramp on their home. Ramps will be built in Gloucester, James City County, Poquoson, Williamsburg and York County.
Kiptopeke State Park, on the Eastern Shore, will host an outdoor exploration day on Saturday, September 29 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. This year’s attractions include exhibits, bird and butterfly watching, wagon rides, food and live music. Free and open to the public, there is a $5 parking fee.

The Virginia Beach Mayor's Commission on Aging is accepting nominations for its annual awards, which aim to honor people who advocate for senior citizens in the community. The winners will be presented their awards at an annual Senior Showcase, set for Wednesday, October 31. The location was not disclosed.
