John B. Dey Elementary School has named Samuel Kane as its November Safety Patrol of the Month. Nominated by multiple staff members during the semester, he has been commended, repeatedly, for carrying out his duties and for consistently remaining at his post, until all of the other students have left the building.
Even on his half-days, when other patrols were quick to hop on their school buses, Sam always waited, until he was released by the teacher in his area.
In addition, earlier in the year, he caught a unsecured door beam, which prevented injury to students and staff.
For his efforts, he was recently presented with a certificate, and prizes, from Virginia Beach Master Police Officer Pete Mantoni, from the city's 2nd Police Precinct.
