Karate students hit the beach, ocean; training and punching waves

January 23, 2019

Karate kids, adult students and instructors, from Ryoshin-Kan Karate School, on Lynnhaven Parkway, recently kicked off the new year with awesome karate classes, demo team practices and special events.

The first event was the school's unique, 39th Annual Winter Shugyo, which was conducted on January 1, at 6:30 a.m., at the Virginia Beach oceanfront.

Karate instructors and students trained on the beach and in the ocean, practicing, Naihanchi Shodan Kata, Goshinjitsu, scissor takedowns and a straddle stance, while also punching the moving, mighty, waves.

Winter Shugyo is a special training event for karate students to welcome in the new year, by training on the beach and in the ocean; and, it also brings out the true, karate spirit in all martial artists.

Afterwards, the group had a great breakfast, at Mary’s Restaurant.

All karate classes in 2019 have started off very well at Ryoshin-Kan Karate School and they are action-packed and fun-filled.
