Emporia man gets 13 years in prison for shooting gun on Atlantic Avenue and injuring six people

October 3, 2019

Ladarius Malik Trisvan, age 22, of Emporia, Va., pled guilty and was sentenced recently on three counts each of malicious wounding and use of a firearm.

In accordance with a plea agreement, Circuit Court Judge H. Thomas Padrick sentenced Trisvan to live in prison for 33 years, with 20 years suspended, leaving 13 years to serve.

Had this case gone to trial, the Commonwealth's evidence would have proven that just after midnight on July 5, 2018, Trisvan discharged a firearm several times outside of a store called "OMG Everything" on Atlantic Avenue in Virginia Beach.

Six citizens, who were not known to Trisvan, were struck by the gunfire as they stood on the street further down Atlantic Avenue.  They had no prior confrontation with Trisvan.  All six victims were treated for non-life- threatening injuries.

Trisvan was recorded on surveillance footage from the store.  In the video, he was seen raising his arm from behind a sign in the window.  A handgun appeared and at least one muzzle flash was captured on camera.  A group of people seen standing with Trisvan began to run toward 19th Street and he ran away with them after the shooting.

Trisvan has a prior conviction for disorderly conduct.

Assistant Commonwealth's Attorney Michael D. Defricke prosecuted this case.
