News and notes: CNU honored for field; Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa expands; Out of the Box Emerging Artist Series is back

November 27, 2019

Captains Field at Christopher Newport University, in Newport News, has been named Field of the Year by the 2,700-member Sports Turf Managers Association. The soccer field’s director is Chris Webb. “Chris and his team have done a wonderful job garnering some national attention, due to the university’s outstanding facilities,” said Colin McDonald, speaking for the association. "Every year, the group presents the industry’s highest honors, to members who manage baseball, football, soccer, softball and other sporting playing surfaces at the professional, collegiate, schools (K-12), and parks and recreation levels."

On December 9, Andrew Elsbury is opening a new Hand & Stone Massage and Facial Spa in Landstown, in Virginia Beach, at the corner of Princess Anne Road and Lancaster Centre Way, said Kayla Bodel, speaking for the spa. “After moving to the States from South Africa in 2009, Andrew decided to leave his sales director position at Arkadin, a French software company, and sign a multi-unit deal in Virginia, with Hand & Stone, to follow in his wife's footsteps of business ownership," said Bodel. "Ahead of the opening, Andrew is offering a free massage or facial to anyone that signs up for a monthly membership. There are currently 17 locations in Virginia and the brand has plans to expand to Newport News, Hampton, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Norfolk, and in Virginia Beach’s Hilltop area in 2020."
